Japanese Rhinoceros Beetles are also one of the few bugs that you can easily raise as a beloved pet. Their long horns and bulky bodies make them one of the strongest bugs on Earth. Japanese Rhinoceros Beetles are fascinating organisms. Have fun raising the beetles and their larva!!! Furthermore, it is important to keep the larva and the container in a cool shady place. 1st and 2nd instar larva can be raised together but the 3rd instar has to be raised separately with the insect protector sheet. When changing, it is better to change only 1/2 of the bedding due to the way the larva gets easily stressed. All you need to do is raise them in about 20cm of bedding, change the bedding once every month and spray water daily to keep the soil moist. As long as you do these things, the beetles will live about 3 months which is the maximum lifespan and reproduce successfully. Put in more beetle jelly when the beetle finish eating one and change the bedding if it gets dirty. Also, put the container in a shady place with a temperature of 15~25 celcius. Always spray water on the bedding if you think it is too dry. But there are some things to do if you want the beetles to be healthy and reproduce. After about 2 months, the beetles will mate and lay eggs. Put in the pair of Japanese Rhinoceros Beetles.Ĥ. Then, put in the beetle jelly log with the beetle jelly in it, and the resting logs in.ģ. Pour in about 10cm of moist beetle bedding into the container and smooth it out. If it wins, he will mate and the life cycle starts over again.ġ. Now, the Japanese Rhinoceros beetle will find tree sap, fight rival males if it is a male and perhaps win. Soon, when dusk approaches, it will crawl crawl out of the ground and start its new life in the outside world. When about 20 days has passed since the larva turned into a pupae, the adult Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle emerges from the pupae. After about a week, it turns into an orange pupae which gradually darkens as the adult body develops inside. In mid- June the fattened larva makes a round room with a width of 4~5 cm and 6~9 cm long and stays still. The following winter, the 2nd instar larva sheds its skin and transforms into the 3rd instar larva which is over 12.5 times larger than the 1st instar and more active. When a few months has passed since the larva was born, the larva molts into the 2nd instar larva. After hatching, it gobbles up the egg shell, dries its body and starts to eat soil mixed with rotting leaves which is rich in nutrients. ![]() ![]() The tiny creature is only 8mm long when it is born. After a few weeks since the egg was laid, the 1st instar larva cracks a hole in the shell with its strong jaws and wiggles out. Like all bugs, the start of the Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle's lifecycle is a tiny egg.
